Digital marketing is a form of marketing for promoting and selling products or services on the Internet. It’s the process of using different online marketing channels like search engines, social media platforms and email to reach and engage with your target audience.

What does a digital marketing manager do? 

A digital marketing manager’s job is to ensure the successful running of digital channels and campaigns using a range of skills to drive traffic and raise awareness of a brand to ultimately help convert audiences into consumers.

What does a day as a digital marketing manager look like? 

A digital marketer may work within a company as an in-house employee, for a PR agency serving multiple clients, or as a freelance contractor. 

A typical day tends to start by checking emails and prioritising tasks for that day monitoring social media activity and responding to any comments/messages. 

Throughout most days a digital marketing manager will write, edit, and produce original content and graphics. This includes then planning and scheduling that content on a social media management software. 

A typical day could also involve working on paid advertising campaigns or email marketing, in addition digital marketers tend to manage websites for clients which includes making sure all the pages are fully functional and maximised for SEO management. 

Throughout the day digital marketer will generally collaborate with other members of the team and with clients. Working at Faith, we’re always having group brainstorms or chatting through ideas with each other! 

What are the day-to-day challenges? 

As the industry is constantly evolving and changing with new trends, technology updates and social media platform changes, it’s crucial for digital marketers to stay current and keep their finger on the pulse. 

A common challenge is having to create reactive content on the spot to either meet the demands of a client or to jump on a trend. 

Algorithm changes can present challenges as they can often alter quickly, meaning a whole strategy may need to be revisited. A good digital marketer will try and spot these changes as soon as possible and have a backup plan ready for when the changes hit.
